Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about wood veneers? Find answers to the most common queries below.

A wood veneer is a very thin slice of natural hardwood (usually 0.5 to 3mm thick) that is glued onto a core substrate like plywood, MDF, or particle board. Because it is sliced from real logs, each piece of wood veneer features unique natural grains, textures, and warmth. In contrast, laminate is a synthetic, printed material made from layers of paper and plastic resins pressed together under high pressure. Laminate is more uniform, scratch-resistant, and requires less maintenance, but veneer offers the authentic look, feel, and richness of natural wood.

Wood veneers come in several distinct varieties:
  • Natural Wood Veneer: Sliced directly from logs, offering untouched natural grain patterns.
  • Reconstructed/Engineered Veneer: Made from fast-growing wood species that are dyed, stacked, and re-sliced to create consistent grain patterns and eliminate natural defects.
  • Stone Veneer: A ultra-thin layer of natural stone backed by fiberglass and resin, perfect for rugged, contemporary architectural finishes.
  • Teak Wood Veneer: Highly popular for premium furniture due to its rich golden-brown hue and natural oil content, which provides resistance to pests and moisture.

Yes, wood veneers are highly suitable for kitchen cabinets, especially for high-end, premium kitchens. However, since veneers are natural wood, they must be properly sealed with a high-quality protective top coat (such as Polyurethane or PU polish) to protect them from moisture, grease, and heat. In high-exposure zones like under-sink cabinets, laminates are sometimes preferred for easier cleaning, but sealed veneer is excellent for overhead and pantry shutters.

To maintain the beauty of wood veneer furniture:
  1. Clean regularly with a soft, dry lint-free microfiber cloth.
  2. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or heavy water. If needed, use a slightly damp cloth and wipe dry immediately.
  3. Use coasters, placemats, and hot pads to prevent water rings and heat damage.
  4. Protect the furniture from direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent uneven fading or discoloration of the natural wood over time.

Wood veneer is generally more expensive than laminate. The higher cost is due to the natural origin of the raw material, the intricate slicing and matching processes, and the additional requirement of professional sanding, polishing, and PU finishing on-site. Laminates are pre-finished and easy to install, which keeps both the material and labor costs lower. However, wood veneer adds unmatched value, unique luxury, and a premium aesthetic to your property.
